INT. DON AND JACKIE'S HOUSE - DAY Ash walks over to the attic entrance, then walks away to INT. BEDROOM - DAY She peers outside the window. ASH I got some time. Ash goes back out to the HALLWAY Then, makes her way into INT. ATTIC - DAY Ash walks into the dark attic. Darkness consumes the room. Ash tugs on the lightbulb switch. The light comes on, but then dies in a moment. ASH Motherfucking... Ash reaches into her pocket and takes out a flashlight. She turns it on and shines it around the attic. Dust is piled in the attic. Ash coughs and examines the other boxes. She looks around the room and stops at one box that reads, "Los Angeles". Ash opens the box. A plastic ID sits in, with a younger version of Don. The ID reads "Joe's Pizza Palace". ASH (CONT’D) Dad delivered pizza... Weird to think about. Next to it, sits a red Gameboy Advanced SP with its charger. Ash picks it up and opens it. She flips it over. Some writing on the back of it reads, "LA April 19th 1998". She cocks an eyebrow at this and pockets the Gameboy. Ash goes back into the box. A picture frame sits inside the box. She pulls it out. A picture of Don and his sister sit in it. His sister wears her graduation gown from UCLA. Don stands next to her and puts two fingers behind her head. The two are happy and smiling. The bottom of the frame reads, "Class of 2014". ASH (CONT’D) I didn't know I had an aunt... A noise comes from downstairs. ASH (CONT’D) Shit! Ash closes the box up and puts it back. She runs down the attic stairs, then puts them back. Ash looks both ways and wipes dust off herself. DON (O.S.) Ash? You wanted to talk to me about something? ASH Yeah, uh... Give me a second, dad! Ash brushes the dust off herself with her hands. She goes down the downstairs. Don is covered in blood. ASH (CONT’D) Oh my god. DON It's not mine, don't worry. Ash looks at Don with a genuine look of concern. ASH Jesus, dad! What's that supposed to mean? DON There was a fight at the bar... It happens. ASH Go get changed! DON What did you want to talk about? ASH It's not important right now. It can definitely wait. DON Uh. Oh... Kay... You know, you can talk to me about anything, right? Ash lets off a nervous laugh. ASH Dad, you're covered in blood. DON You sure? Ash gives him a look of mild annoyance. DON (CONT’D) Al-Alright. Don walks away. Ash stops. ASH Dad? Don turns back around. DON Yeah? ASH You're... Going to my softball game, right? Don pauses for a moment and looks down at the ground. DON I'll do what I can. I'll ask my boss. Ash smiles. ASH Thanks, dad. Don nods and Ash walks away. She looks down at the Gameboy and goes up the stairs to ASH'S ROOM Ash opens up her laptop and takes the Gameboy out of her jacket. She turns the Gameboy around and looks at the writing. She puts it into Google. Ash looks at the results. "Good Friday/Belfast Agreement for Northern Ireland is signed by the British and Irish governments" "Pakistan tests medium-range missiles capable of hitting India." "Unemployment rate drops to 4.3%" ASH No... She clicks around, but stops. Ash pulls a cardboard poster out from next to her with a family tree. She stares at Don's sister's name. She places it to face her and jumps on Facebook. She looks up "Dawn Paulsen". Ash clicks through a few of the name and with a bored expression scrolls through them. She stops at one: "Went to school at UCLA, Works at Knight Pharmaceuticals - Researcher". Ash looks back at the main name on it. From there, she clicks around in her pictures then stops at one. A picture of a newspaper clipping. The post reads, "You were taken from us too soon. RIP". ASH (CONT’D) Oh, fuck. DON Everything okay? Ash shuts the laptop. ASH Yeah! It's okay! DON Ash? ASH It's my boyfriend! Don't worry about it! DON He sending you something he shouldn't? ASH No, I mean- No, everything's fine. Ash slides herself between the gameboy. DON Alright uh. If he gives you trouble, I'll break his fucking legs, you know that right? Ash lets off a nervous smile. ASH 'Course! DON Seriously Ash, you can tell me anything. ASH This is something I gotta sort out on my own, dad. DON Well if you need anything you can talk to me. I'll make dinner tonight. What sounds good? END SCENE.
