18 servicemen were killed and 38 were injured last Thursday when insurgents ambushed their convoy, NATO official said Wednesday. 

Taliban forces claimed responsibility for the attack, saying a militant buried explosives under the road. 

NATO’s Resolute Support mission in the country confirmed an assault on its convoy, but provided no other details. "We are working to gather additional information as quickly as possible," the coalition said in a statement.
