>today's been slow at the gun store >even slower than usual >you don't mind, though >you run this more as a hobby than a career >besides, most gun stores have huge racks of rifles and handguns >you have a half-dozen rifles only, and a couple dozen handguns >it's 7pm, closing time >you flip the sign off and lock the front door >you scoop up some of the handguns and gently put them in the big safe in the back room >rinse and repeat until they're all locked away >after the safe is closed, you come out to the rack of rifles "Okay ladies, let's go home." >immediately you are mobbed as all six jump down, give you a hug, then run out to the wagon >you lock up the shop and meet them out in the parking lot >as always, they're arguing over who gets shotgun >the irony of rifles arguing about shotgun never fails to amuse you >they finally sort it out and everyone gets in the car >"Anon, who's cooking tonight?" "I think it's Katharina's turn tonight, right?" >the Swiss girl in the far back row nods her head >"Yes! I'll do my best." >sitting next to her is a German girl staring out the window, looking vaguely annoyed >"Scheiße, Swiss cooking? I'd rather get your terrible fast food." "Hey, come on. You two play nice back there." >"Sorry Katharina, I'm just in a bad mood." "You still miss Katrina, huh?" >The G41W's been in a bad mood for a week, ever since you finally found a worthy owner for the Kar98k she had been close to >at a stoplight you pull up a picture attachment from your email and pass your phone back to Giselle >"What is this?" >the picture is of Katrina and her new owner, out at a gun range >they're hugging each other and have big smiles on their faces "I got that today in my email. Katrina is fine and very happy in her new home." >you make eye contact with Giselle in the rear view "I'm going to do my best so that you have the same. Until then, you'll just have to be stuck with me." >you say the last sentence in a self-depreciating tone, and are met with a swat from your shotgun rider >"Don't be so hard on yourself, I'm happier with you than I've been in a long time!" >Gale smiles at you, and it reminds you why you do this >the Garand came to you with a horribly-modified stock and optics setup >anyone who'd stick an AR grip on a vintage rifle should be beaten >you saved her, though, and she's been grateful to you ever since >you finally get home and pull in the driveway >the girls pile out of the car and run into the house, chattering away about anything and everything >you stand back for a second and watch with a small smile on your face >"Anon, what are you waiting for? Come on!" >you walk into the house and join them >soon the air is filled with the smell of cooking and laughter >after dinner there's arguing over the TV, as usual >with some prodding from you they finally settle on Starship Troppers >it's not a great movie but it's pretty entertaining >during the last 15 minutes you sneak away to use the bathroom and take a shower >you know with 6 girls fighting over a single bathroom you'll never be able to get one otherwise >you come back into the living room just as the movie ends >just like you knew would happen, they all start getting ready for bed and fighting over the bathroom >Katharina fell asleep on the couch already, she didn't even make it through the movie >you turn the TV and the light off, and cover her with a blanket >you go into your office for a bit just to take care of some bills and paperwork while the commotion winds down >when you come out, everyone is showered and ready for bed >you stick your head in the guest bedroom >it's a bit crowded with three bunkbeds in there, but it's the only way you could make it work for them >one of the bunk beds is empty, with Katrina on to a new home and Katharina asleep in the living room "Goodnight, girls." >"Goodnight, Anon!" >you go into your bedroom >Gale's already asleep in your bed >crawl into bed, trying not to wake her >she snuggles up next to you >"Goodnight... Anon..." she says sleepily >you drift off to sleep with a smile on your face
