>wake up to your phone alarm vibrating >you work a late shift today but have plans for the day >you ease your way out of Ruby's grasp >she's getting more insistent – you ended up sacrificing your shirt to escape >she wraps it in her arms and buries her face in it as you get up off the floor >do the usual bathroom stuff, then start breakfast going >the smell of eggs, bacon, and coffee draws the sleepy Ruger out of bed >she's still carrying your shirt >you trade her a plate of food for it and she wanders off to the dining room, grumbling about something >you make yourself a plate of food and join her >once she has some caffeine and food in her, Ruby is more pleasant >”Good morning, anon.” “Is it? It didn't sound like one earlier.” >”C'mon, no teasing. You know I don't like mornings.” “Well, you're going to like this one, I think.” >”Oh? What are you plotting?” “Remember last nigh, the guy I have to talk to? We're going to meet him after breakfast.” >her eyes get wide as she remembers what that meant >”Okay!” >she bolts the rest of her food down and then runs off to get ready >you finish your food and stick the plate in the dishwasher >as if prompted by the noise of it, Ruby yells to hurry up >you go into the bedroom to get dressed >Ruby's in the bathroom doing hair and makeup >as you're pulling on a shirt, you hear an unholy scream from the bathroom >after you pull your heart back down from the ceiling, you peek in the bathroom >Ruby was trying to put on mascara, and left a black stripe on the bridge of her nose >”Damnit, now I have to clean this off...” she mutters to herself “Can you not scare me to death next time that happens?” >she jumps as you talk, not expecting you >”Eh-hehe, sorry...” >you take a deep breath to try to calm yourself as you finish getting dressed >because of the makeup incident you beat her out to the car >you lean against the passenger front door as you wait for her >as she comes out to the car, you can't help but notice how pretty she is >she's beautiful to you normally, but when she puts the effort in she shines up like a brand-new penny “Shall we?” >”Yes, of course! But...” >she trails off as she looks at you, then the car, then back at you >you turn and offer an arm out to her to hold onto >she quickly wraps her arms around yours as you start walking down the driveway “It's not too far to where we're going, so I thought a walk would be nice.” >”Anything's nice when it's with you,” she says with a smile >she slides a hand down your arm and wraps your fingers in hers >the two of you walk about 15 minutes until you are finally in town >in town is a big True Value Hardware that takes up two storefronts >one is for hardware and sells firearms and ammo >the other is for appliance sales, both new and used >you hold the door for Ruby and go into the store >”Hey Anon, how's it going?” says the cashier “Pretty good, Steve. Hey, is Bill in today? I needed to talk to him.” >”Oh, yeah, he's in back receiving inventory. You know where?” “Yep, I do.” >you turn to Ruby “Look around for a bit, I have to talk to the owner for a few minutes for ya, OK?” >”OK!” she says with a big smile >Ruby stars looking around the store, starting with the firearms because they're most familiar to her >she spots a shelf of Quiet-22 and sticks her tongue out at it >then her eyes alight on something in the display case >”Can I see that one, please?” >”Well, if she's as good as you say she is, I'd be interested.” Bill says “Okay, great, I'll call her over!” >you stick your head out of the back stockroom “Ruby! Come here.” >”I'm over here!” “I'll be right back, Bill.” >”Sure thing, I'll be here.” >you follow the sound of Ruby's voice to the firearms counter >she appears to be cradling something like a baby “Ruby, Bill wants to-” >”Anon, it's so cute! Can we get one?” >she turns to you and she's cradling in her arms a Ruger Charger >it's upside down in her arms, magwell pointed at the ceiling >it's the exact same action as hers, just in a smaller form >just... a little version of herself... >oh no >no no no >nonononononononono >you feel your face turning red at the implication >you try to hold yourself together “Not right now, you have to put that back so we can talk to Bill.” >she hands the Charger back to the clerk, who shakes his head bemusedly as he puts it away >as she comes back to you she notices your red face and gets a concerned look >”Did I go too fast again?” >you only nod as you close your eyes and take a deep breath to try and get back under control >when you look back at her she's making puppy dog eyes at you >no >this isn't working this time >no >sigh “I'm not saying no forever, just not right now.” >her face lights up in a smile ”But if you don't slow down I'm going to start getting you only that low-speed quiet ammo.” >”Y-you wouldn't dare.” “Try me.” >she sticks her tongue out at you “Yeah yeah, just don't do that to Bill.” >”Where is he?” she asks, suddenly a bit nervous “He's in the back room doing inventory stuff, come on.” >you lead the increasingly-nervous Ruger to the back of the store >when you get to the stock room doors, she tugs on your sleeve >you turn to her, and she looks like she's trying to make herself as small as that Charger she had earlier “What's wrong?” >”I-I-I can't do this! I'm so nervous! I've never had a job before! What if I screw up?” >you gently pat her head and run your hand down the side of her face >she almost melts into your touch and visibly calms down “You'll be fine. I've know Bill since junior high. Just go talk to him a bit, that's all. I did most of it for you. And if you don't get it, oh well. We can do something else. OK?” >she nods, her cheek rubbing against your palm >she reluctantly pulls away from you, steels herself, and walks in the back room >you wander back up to the firearms counter and start talking to the clerk there >just idle talk to fill the time, really >you're a bit nervous, but you know she'll do well >15 minutes later, you feel a tap on the shoulder >you turn around and Bill and Ruby are there >Bill has a straight face, but Ruby is trying and failing to keep the smile off hers >you decide to play along “Well, how'd it go?” >like a thousand watt lightbulb turning on, her smile breaks through >”I got the job!” >she pounces on you, laughing >you look over her shoulder at Bill while she hugs you >he nods his head >”I'll have her start next week. Take care, you two.” >with that, Bill walks back in the stockroom >the two of you leave the store, arm in arm >her smile is radiant >as you walk back to the house, you talk about her new job >she was hired on to help refurbish appliances to start out with >Bill said she could move up if she does well >you have no doubt she will >when you get home, you have just enough time for a quick lunch before you have to go to work >microwave leftovers it is then >you change into work clothes and come out to the kitchen >Ruby has another bag lunch for you, and her glowing smile too >”Have a good day at work, sweetie!” >she pulls you in for a kiss >you jump a little bit as you feel a hand squeeze your backside “Someone's feeling a little fresh today,” you say after the kiss >”Wellll... I'm just in a good mood.” “That's an understatement. I'll be home as soon as I can.” >the work day goes by rather quickly >it's nice to have an actual lunch instead of having to get fast food all the time >you could get used to this >you drive home and park the car >you barely get inside and set your keys down before you're pounced on and kissed passionately >”Mmm, I missed you.” “I noticed.” >she smiles at this before diving into another kiss >ten minutes later the makeout session is rudely interrupted by the timer going off on the oven >she growls under her breath before walking over and shutting the oven and timer off >she walks back to you >“Well, dinner's ready right now. We could do that first, or...” >she reaches a hand down and grabs you through your pants >”... we could skip right to dessert.” >the answer you give is to kiss her deeply >dinner was a little cold this evening, but still delicious >afterwards, the two of you snuggle under a throw blanket on the couch for awhile >she ends up falling asleep lying on you, and you don't have the heart to wake her up >you're comfortable enough as it is >sleep gently carries you away
