To make up for the loss of so much advanced weapons and materials, mass production of arms was required to equip the reformed Free Human Remnant quickly. The weapons and tools used by the FHR are made from Iron, or more rarely Steel, melted in a foundry, cast in open molds, then forged, and finally finished by sharpening on grindstones. Armor and helmets are also hammered and shaped en masse. Though the weapons and armor are quite competently crafted, the quality is cruder compared to those that were and still are created by Clan Varke. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iron --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Chopper" Broadsword: A sturdy, 2 ft long blade made entirely out of Iron, the affectionately nicknamed "chopper" is a machete style blade with a spike on the back side tip. The Dzen designed sword leaves little in the looks department, but it's effectiveness during the FHS civil war was nothing to make fun of, easily hacking off limbs and punching through even steel armor. The blade's ease of manufacture leads to it's immense popularity among soldiers in the FHR. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Cutter" Shortsword: Similar in principle to the Chopper, the Cutter shortsword is a few inches shorter then it's older brother, but in exchange for a stabbing tip. The Cutter is designed more for use like a traditional sword, being a backup weapon for spearmen and bowmen alike. It's production is similarly quick, being a simple matter, and while the Iron it's made of isn't the optimal material, it's solid and sturdy enough to last in combat. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fighting Shield: A thick iron shield designed for superior handling and quick jabs, the shield features two sharp spikes on it's bottom for use in conjunction with the wielder's sword. The spikes are meant to punch through armor, catch blades, and to add an overall intimidating silhouette to the look of a soldier. Most users intentionally keep the spikes mildly rusty to ensure disease takes hold if an opponent is struck with them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iron Bows: Since the discovery of the superiority of metal bows in crossbows, steel has been crucial in the penetration power and distance of bolts fired from FHS crossbows. Unfortunately, since the reformation of the Remnant, Steel is a rare commodity reserved for those with influence or money, and thus, in newly created crossbows, Iron is used. Iron being an inferior metal to Steel, they don't have the same power or reach, but they are still very potent weapons. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Horsebreaker" Greatswords: A huge sword with a five-foot blade and a foot-long double spike at the end; it was a cumbersome sword, requiring an enormous amount of strength to wield. Fortunately for the FHR, they had an entire race that was adept with the use of greatweapons, as they had for centuries. During the civil war, the last few cavalry units under Clan Taiida and their allies were quite literally cut to pieces by the clever and tactical use of Awoo shock troops by Clan Vay, which inadvertently lead to the extinction of all the remaining horses within the FHS/FHR. The spikes on the end of the blades were perfect for catching the undersides of horses, disemboweling them while they still charged, and using the 5 feet of blade to cut the dismounted riders in half. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spiked cestus gauntlets: Used by spear/pikemen universally, the left gauntlet of the infantryman's armor is tipped with a spiked cestus, used for punching, as they are not given shields. To make up for that, the lower arm portion of the gauntlet is wider, allowing for a wider protected area and modeled off of Fighting shields in design. While the injuries caused are usually not initially fatal, the small, triangularly shaped and sometimes rusty spikes create wounds that are hard to sew shut and are prone to festering. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steel --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Spiker" Spear/Pike: While the horses of the FHR are all gone, either killed or eaten in necessity, the use of the spear and pike is no less useful. With only a small portion of the weapon actually needing to be made of metal, Steel is favored for the spear tips, as the cost of using steel is outweighed by the durability and edge it can hold. The spears tend to be 6 feet in length, while Pikes are typically 12 feet in length. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steel Bows: While expensive for most clans to commission, the price of a steel bowed crossbow is considered well worth it. Primarily used by the Tech-Guard of Clan Varke, Steel bowed Crossbows are deadly weapons that should not be underestimated. Those utilized by Clan Varke tend to have two spikes on the tip for close quarters combat. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Halberd: The sacred weapon of the Battle-Priests of Clan Vay, the halberd is the most advanced melee weapon still able to be produced by the FHR. Exclusively made by the skilled craftsmen of Clan Vay, no other clan has been granted the knowledge to produce such weapons, not even Clan Varke, no matter how much they offer in exchange. The blades are engraved with numerous holy symbols of Vaygr, and seem to channel the divine magics used by the Battle-priests better then those of Iron. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unusable --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Handguns: Early firearms, the Handgun was the primary arm used by the FHS in it's prime until the collapse of the world. While the lead ammunition is easy and quick to produce, the black powder needed to propel the bullets is completely gone, either consumed in the explosion that leveled Clan Varke's quarter of the city, or used up in the FHS civil war upon Andreth's reappearance. Now considered completely useless, the remaining guns are locked away in the former Great Hall of Clan Vay, guarded 24/7 by Clan Varke's elite Tech-Guard. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flamesprayers: An advanced tool of immense destructive potential, the Flamesprayer started as a bulky siege tool, but through the years was streamlined into a backpack mounted napalm spewers. Like the guns, their fuel was entirely consumed during the capital's fall, or during the civil war. Now considered completely useless, the remaining Flamesprayers are locked away in the former Great Hall of Clan Vay, guarded 24/7 by Clan Varke's elite Tech-Guard.
