Information about skinwalkers often varies from individual to individual such as appearance, aggressiveness towards others, etc. This document will be a general overlay of what one might expect to find upon coming across a skinwalker. It is not entirely clear as to whether there is one overlying species of skinwalker or if there are many subspecies that exhibit certain unique  behaviors many have reported.

A favored terrain of these cryptids would be any kind of forest but there are many that roam other areas such as plains and even deserts. What often accompanies skinwalkers is a lingering smell of rotting flesh due to its habit of wearing the skins of its carnivorous diet of people, animals, and other various sources of flesh. People have often reported a strong smell of things such as rust or pennies lingering in the air before an encounter. Across the board (Nice pun), they seem to have an innate talent to take on the appearance of animals and even people but often fail to hold up to any critical inspection, the animal or human will act in strange and erratic ways, or look slightly off in appearance. Another innate talent they have is a rough mimicry of things they have heard before such as human speech, animal noises, etc but they again are always off if one takes care to listen carefully for things like pitch change, repetition of words and phrases, and broken and confusing speech. There appears to be a cunning nature that these creatures exhibit when luring their prey into ambush based on the fact that it specifically chooses appearances and phrases that might work best to lure something in. Although not confirmed, in some cases they seem to even understand languages, and there are rumors that they can even learn to read writing, possibly representing that their intelligence is on a spectrum from more animalistic to at times even similar to humans. With personality, they favor showing a predatorial remorseless, sadistic, and violent behavior which would be what survivors explain as a direct attempt to trick, confuse, scare, and play with their prey until it decides to finish them off. Skinwalkers tend to be loners within their species and there seems to be little to no interaction from one individual to the next. Gender is not discernible between one skinwalker and the next. Nothing is currently known regarding the reproduction and continuation of their species. Reports of people entering areas of mutual interest, respect, friendships, ownership, or even sexual relationships with skinwalkers are to be dismissed and it is recommended to not attempt as it will likely result in the death during the attempt. Skinwalkers are extremely difficult to kill without the appropriate equipment because most small arms and smaller explosives are known to be completely ineffective at even driving it off or promoting a response of pain.
